One person has died and several others hospitalized as health authorities announced outbreak of cholera in some parts of Siaya County.
The Siaya Deputy Director of Health Services, Dr. Isaac Ngere said the death occurred at Rabuor nursing home in Gem Sub County while four people were hospitalized in Alego / Usonga suffering from the deadly disease.
The clinical symptoms of the person who died at Rabuor Nursing home clearly indicated cholera, said the medic, adding that that three sub locations of Gongo, Nyandiwa and Kagilo in central Gem location are most affected.
Dr. Ngere said cholera has also been reported around Ng’iya in South East Alego and Kadenge Ratuoro in Central Alego.
He said that they were also monitoring parts of North Alego location where some symptoms have emerged and tests are ongoing.
The Deputy Director said that medical personnel have been dispatched to the affected areas to help contain the situation, adding that other officers are also on standby at the various health facilities.
He urged the public to be vigilant and refer anyone with symptoms of profuse diarrhoea to the nearest health facility as fast as they can.
