Baby drowns as mother removes clothes from drying line

Tragedy struck a 21-year- old mother after she found her nine-month-old daughter drowned in a bucket of water.

Esther Waithera left her child (name withheld) in the house as she went out to remove clothes from the line at about 6pm. She stays at Karai village in Ndaragwa sub County, Nyandarua County.

Confirming the incident, Nyandarua North OCPD Timon Odingo said, On going back to the house, the mother found the child had fallen in the water bucket. The child was rushed to the local health centre before being referred to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital where she died.

Odingo cautioned young mothers to be careful when dealing with crawling children saying at that age the babies are fond of exploring everything.

Meanwhile, a rider and his passenger are admitted to Nyahururu County Referral Hospital after being involved in an accident along the busy Nyahururu�Nyeri Highway at St Martin Catholic hall.

Joseph Gitonga and Anthony Kimotho were hit by a matatu vehicle allegedly being driven by a drunken driver.

Odingo said police are investigating the incident.
