Kajiado County Commissioner Mr. Harsame Kello has condemned an arson attack that left the Kajiado Central ODM offices razed by unknown assailants on Saturday afternoon.
He termed the attack as reckless and backward but assured that investigations were launched to establish the motive of the arsonists.
This kind of arson attack is unfortunate and belong to people who are still living in the past, Kello said.
He said political competition was healthy but this kind of intolerance will not be entertained in the County and promised to make sure that the culprits were brought to book.
According to Kajiado Township Area Chief Lawrence Kelian, witnesses who responded to alarm when the fire broke out said the inferno started in the cabinet room before it spread .
The fire started around 3pm, before members of the public responded after they saw smoke bellowing from the building and alerted the County Fire department to contain the fire.
Chief Kelian said he informed the owner of the building of the incident but said it was too early to account for everything that was in the office before evaluating the cost of losses incurred during the inferno.
He urged rival political camps in the region to peaceful co exist during the ongoing campaigns and to desist from politically instigated acts of violence and chaos.
He told them to practice issue based politics that will continue to allow residents of Kajiado to live in harmony, as the County is widely known for its peaceful stature.
The incident has elicited mixed reactions, with Kajiado Central ODM Chairman and Dalalekutok ward aspirant John Louisa calling for speedy investigations to be conducted and ensure the suspect has been arrested.
Louisa has also appealed for calm as political temperatures continue to heighten.
