A Football Match turns tragic after school boy dies

A football match Wednesday ended in tragedy when a 14 year-old boy died after he was hit during a training session held at a primary school in Malindi Sub County, Kilifi County.

Vincent Masha, a class eight pupil at Karima Primary school in Muyeye Village, was playing with his schoolmates when one of the players missed the ball and hit him in the stomach.

According to a Senior Teacher at the school Mr. Peter Okello the incident occurred at around 3.30pm during a routine football practice session.

“This being the term for ball games, the children were on a routine practice and Masha, who was serving as the goal-keeper was trying to get hold of the ball; however, his friend accidentally missed the ball and kicked him in the stomach,” Okello said.

The teacher said a scan was done on Masha at Jamu Hospital in the town that revealed that the victim had suffered internal bleeding in his stomach.

Masha was taken to Malindi District Hospital was later referred to Coast General Hospital but died en route at Majengo Kanamai stage along the Malindi-Mombasa Road as he was being rushed to CGH for further treatment.

The senior superintendent at the Malindi Sub County hospital, Dr. Stephen Chireah, confirmed the incident and termed it as tragic.
