The Teachers Service Commission has employed 34 new teachers in Machakos County.
Making the announcement Tuesday at his office, Machakos County TSC Director Mr. Mururi Ireri said the 34 have been posted evenly to various schools across the county.
He said the recruitment was part of the government’s commitment to employ 5,000 new teachers in the county to address the shortfall occasioned by retirements and natural attrition.
The Director said the new teachers were selected strictly on merit. We looked at the academic performance, the age and the period one stayed out of employment since graduation when choosing these teachers, he said.
At the same, Ireri cautioned those seeking employment as teachers to be wary of conmen who take advantage of their desperation to defraud them of their money pretending that they could get them employment.
He said there were several fraudsters operating from various places in the county whose aim was to defraud the prospective teachers by cheating them that they could secure employment for them after payment of some money.
I wish to assure all prospective teachers that our (TSC) recruitment exercise is entirely free, and they should not pay any money to anyone on the promise that they will be employed, he added.
Ireri warned teachers against allowing politicians to campaign in their schools saying schools were solely for learning purposes and no lessons should be disrupted by politicians.
Any head teacher caught allowing politicians to use their school compounds for campaigns will be disciplined, he cautioned.
